What is acquired brain injury?

If damage to your brain occurs during the course of your life, it is called acquired brain injury.

With ABI, a distinction is made between traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury. Traumatic brain injury occurs due to an external cause. For example, a blow to the head from a traffic accident or a fall. Non-traumatic brain injury occurs from a cause inside the body such as a stroke or brain (membrane) inflammation.
